Nicolas Hernandez

Vineyard Supervisor

Growing up on a farm in Oaxaca, Mexico, Nicolas chose his career at a young age. He wanted to be a farmer. Here in Sonoma County, he worked in the vineyards, attended Santa Rosa Junior College and then Fresno State University, where he earned a degree in Viticulture.

Nicolas worked as a college intern for BVM for two summers, 2016 and 2017. Duff and Matt offered him a job before he graduated from college. He obtained his Pest Control Advisor license and his Qualified Applicator license from the State of California. As a BVM supervisor, Nicolas is in charge of 100 acres and runs BVM’s sustainable programs. “It all has to do with Mother Nature, protecting wildlife and neighbors.” And he appreciates the team work: the field workers and the foremen’s knowledge of each site, combining local knowledge with his education.

Among his mentors, Nicolas counts Tim Tesconi of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, Duff Bevill and Matt Vogensen. His favorite time of year is harvest. “You see the outcome of all the hard work you put in during the year.”
